469 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STEPHENS, John Kenneth “Jack” Jack was born on September 29, 1919 in Collingwood, Ontario. He served in the Army from January of 1942 until his discharge. He lost hearing in one of his ears when a gun was fired when he was on a tank and the ringing continued the remainder of his life. He bought a farm in the fall of 1946. Jack passed away on June 25, 1999. STEPHENSON, William T. William was born in 1913 in England. He served as a Sgt Pilot and flew Vickers Wellingtons with the RAF #104 Squadron, operating from RAF Driffield. He served in Canada and England. He was killed on August 17, 1941 on a mission to Duisburg. He is buried at Scampton Church Yard Cemetery in Lincolnshire, England. He is commemorated on the cenotaph in Omemee, ON. STEPHENSON, James L. James was born on August 21, 1933 in Galt, ON. Jim, after a short term commission with the RCAF, rejoined 296 Air Cadet Squadron after having been a Cadet for four years. He became the CO of 296 Squadron. In 1968, he moved to Kapuskasing and joined the 647th Air Cadet Squadron as an officer and as part of the sponsoring committee. In 1998, he moved to Kanata, ON and became involved in the Air Cadet Sqn. there as well. While in Kapuskasing, he became part of the foundation of the Kapuskasing flying club. His son Allan along with many other 647 Cadets worked on restoring a Mosquito Bomber, back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. This warbird took its first flight on the last week of April 2014. Jim and his wife Doris reside in the Ottawa area.
