Military Service Recognition Book 468 ONTARIO COMMAND STAVENOW, Bryan C. Bryan was born on October 27, 1957 in Kitchener, ON. He joined Cambridge’s Highland Fusiliers of Canada at age 17. It was the summer of 1975, and he was a Summer Student Employment Program (SSEP) candidate. In 1976, he joined the Regular Force and attended the recruit school at CFB Cornwallis. Soon after, he trained as a Sapper (a Combat Engineer) and was posted to the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment (2CER) in Petawawa. The Basic Parachutist course soon followed and Bryan was to become a maroon beret-wearing airborne sapper. He had a total of 32 parachute jumps, including one as part of a large winter field exercise in Earlton, ON – halfway between North Bay and Timmins. He performed well in a variety of airborne exercises – winter and summer – in both Canada and the USA. He released in September 1979. He has since worked at a variety of civilian jobs including service station attendant and hotel handyman. STEPHENS, Alan J. M. Alan was born on December 23, 1924 in Toronto, ON. He served with the RCASC from January 6, 1943 to July of 1947 and with the 27th Infantry Brigade from 1951 to 1954. His service took him to the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany though he was never in action. STELL, Stanley Joseph Stanley was born in Brooklin, Ontario on October 16, 1920. He enlisted in the Air Force in Toronto and served in Germany during World War II. He was stationed at Mossbank, Saskatchewan and then to CFB Trenton, Ontario. He transferred to Germany and served two years. He returned, was discharged and worked at General Motors until his death.
