Military Service Recognition Book 470 ONTARIO COMMAND STEVENSON, William William was born on October 6, 1935 in Blantyre, Lancashire, Scotland. He served with the Armoured Division “Royal Scots Greys” after enlisting in the Army on September 8, 1954 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He served in England as a Trooper and was discharged on August 7, 1957 in England. He immigrated to Canada in June of 1970. He now resides in Kapuskasing, ON. He has been a member of the Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 44 years. STEWART, Gordon Gordon was born on August 25, 1932 in London, ON. He enlisted in October of 1952 and served with the Army Service Corps with the rank of Private. He served in Korea and Japan during the Korean War and was honourably discharged in 1956. Gordon’s decorations include the United Nations Medal, Korea Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He joined the Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch on December 11, 2002. He was very helpful with the Poppy Campaign and helped whenever called upon. Gordon passed away on September 24, 2006. STEWART, Edward George Edward was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 3, 1926. He enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1944 and took his basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Base in Illinois and his Specialist Training at Sampson Naval Station in New York. He was assigned to his first ship, an Attack Transport, the Monticello, at Boston, as Seaman Second Class. This ship carried troops to and from England and France. His second ship, the U.S.S. Europa, was designated to carry troops back from Bremmerhaven, Germany; Le Havre, France and Southampton, England. Edward received his discharge as Fireman 1st Class at Great Lakes Naval station in July of 1946. After the war, Edward moved to Canada and became a Canadian citizen in September of 1962. He worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Wroxeter, the Western Foundry at Wingham, the Department of Highways at Wroxeter and finally with Canada Packers at Harriston in 1949 until he retired in October of 1987. Edward was a member at the Howick and Harriston Legions. At the Harriston Legion he served on many committees, as well as a term as President in 1977-1978. He also served as Zone C3 Secretary-Tresurer for six years and after that, as Zone C3 Treasurer. Edward passed away on October 23, 2013.
