Military Service Recognition Book 454 ONTARIO COMMAND SMITH, Ernest Ernest was born on June 20, 1924 in Goosberry Cove, NL. He enlisted in the Army on May 27, 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. Ernest died in the Knights of Columbus hostel fire on December 12, 1942. He is buried in General Protestant Cemetery in St. John’s. SMITH, Fay Douglas Fay was born on January 12, 1933 in Swiftcurrent, SK. He served with the Kings Own Calgary Regiment, R.C.A.F. CEPE Cold Lake, 115 Airtransport Egypt during Peacetime after enlisting in January of 1954. He served in Cold Lake, Alberta; Egypt; 6RD Trenton; St. Denis; Clinton and Egypt. He was a member of the Calgary Tanks for three years and R.C.A.F. for 10 years and an Eng. Tech and later was Ground Radar at Lac Denis when he was released as time was up and semi-isolation. He was the only crewman on Mitchell B25 Otter and Dakots with six hundred hours. He flew all over Canada, parts of the Unites States and Middle East. He has earned the UNEF Medal and the Egypt Medal with CD. Fay has been a member of the Toronto Legion Branch 11 for 43 years. SMITH, Fay Fay was born on May 3, 1897 in Little Falls, Minnesota. He joined the Army with the First Depot Battalion, Sask Regiment. He served in England during World War I. He changed the date on his birth certificate. When he got to England, they found out he was underage and he was sent back to Canada. When he enlisted again, he went to England but he did not get to France. He passed away on January 13, 1975.
