453 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SMART, Findlay S. Findlay was born on March 12, 1880 in Brussels, ON. He enlisted in the Army on October 14, 1915 and served in Canada, England and France with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 71st Battalion and 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles. Findlay was wounded while serving overseas and also suffered from trench fever. He was discharged on February 10, 1918. He had been a member of the Stratford Legion Branch 8 for 30 years before he passed away on December 10, 1951. SMITH, Clarence A. Clarence was born on October 9, 1917 in Union, ON. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and trained in Brockville and in Kingston. He was stationed in Calgary in 1942. Clarence was discharged in 1945. After the war, he worked in accounting firms. Clarence passed away on June 21, 1993. SMITH, Burnley G. “Benny” Benny was born on September 28, 1925 in Tottenham, ON. He joined the Army after his 18th birthday. He started off in the RCAF and trained as an Air Gunner but poor eyesight meant a change in careers, so Benny re-mustered to the infantry. He ended up in the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Luckily for him, the war ended before he was sent overseas. He was discharged in 1946. In civilian life, Benny worked for Trans Canada Airlines in “Weights and Balances”. He married Leona and they raised two children.
