449 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHERMAN, John F. R. F. John was born on July 3, 1942 in Brockville, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on April 27, 1962 and served with the 2nd Battalion Canadian Guards. He served in Canada and in Cyprus during peacetime. After his discharge on June 25, 1965, he worked in the transportation industry until his retirement in 2007. John has been a member of the Sir Sam Hughes Legion Branch 67 for 46 years. SHIER, Carmen R. Carmen was born on September 13, 1925 in Newmarket, ON. He enlisted in the Army in September of 1943. He served as a gunner in Canada and in Continental Europe with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II. He was discharged in June of 1946. After his discharge, he worked for De Havilland Aircraft for 37 years. He married Margaret Margerison in 1949 and they had one son. He retired in 1984. SHERWIN, Charles Albert B. “Al” Al was born on May 31, 1914 in North Bay, ON. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served with the Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles (now known as the British Columbia Regiment). He served as a Trooper in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Defence Medal. During his entire career, he taught mechanics how to repair machinery in the field and also taught carrier drivers. Al was a member of the Legion Branch 85 for more than 50 years before he passed away on September 24, 1994.
