By “officially”, we mean just that, as an account was carried on the branch books in his name which took care of his yearly license fee and his food, all of which was regularly approved. Pudgy’s license tag was #73, which is the branch number, was reserved for him each year. He was a black mongrel dog with a stub tail. His master, Joe Cooper, lived next door to the Legion. Joe’s friend worked at the Legion’s canteen and Pudgy often followed him to work. Pudgy formed many friendships and developed a taste for beer, sugar lumps, chocolate bars and peanuts. Pudgy passed away on January 28, 1955 at the age of fifteen. Thank You For Supporting Our Veterans
