He became a member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton, AB and completed his basic training in February of 1967. He was then transferred to the Queens Own Rifles Battalion in Victoria, B.C. where he worked in the Transport Platoon. While stationed in Victoria, B.C. the Queens Own Rifles Battalion was disbanded and became the 3rd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Alex completed military training in Norway, served two tours (6 months each) with the NATO forces in Nicosia, Cyprus, and one tour in Cairo and Ismailia, Egypt as a Peacekeeper. After his tour of duty in Egypt, he moved with his family back in Manitoba where he took several more courses and was a member of the 2nd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.
