235 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WILKINSON, Haddon S. WWII Haddon was born in Shergrove, Manitoba in 1918. He joined the Army and served with the Lake Superior Regiment in Canada, Britain and Europe. He was a Life Member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10. Haddon died in 1991. WILLIAMS, Emlyn E. WWII Emlyn was born in 1920 in Foxwarren, Manitoba. In April 1941, he joined the Army in Winnipeg and trained at Camp Borden, Ontario with the 5th Canadian Armoured Division before sailing to England in November that same year. He served as a Corporal with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals during the Sicily, Italy and Holland campaigns. In September 1945, Emlyn married a member of the Ladies Land Army, Eileen Martin, in Hove, Sussex, England. Emlyn returned to Foxwarren in December aboard the Queen Elizabeth and Eileen followed in June 1946 aboard a hospital ship, The Lady Nelson. After the war, he was owner/operator in a sand and gravel construction business for 30 years and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as an avid hockey fan, player and coach. Emlyn was a member of Foxwarren Legion Branch 152 for thirty years and was its President when he died in October 1978. WILLSON, Allan Keith WWII Allan was born on November 21, 1916 in Boissevain, Manitoba. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a wireless operator in Canada. His first postings were in Lachine and Dorval Airport in Montreal, Quebec, then later at Sea Island Airport in Vancouver, British Columbia and finally, at Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island before being discharged in 1945. Allan married Estella Willson in 1942 and they had three children. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for fifty years before he died in 1995. WILLIAMSON, Norman WWI Norman was born in High Bluff, Manitoba in November 1983 and moved with the family to the Grandview area two years later. He joined the Army in 1916 and trained at Camp Hughes (Shilo) with 226 Manitoba Battalion, British Expeditionary Force, A Company. While in France, he was sent to sniper’s school and was made Sergeant. Due to the heavy casualties in the 226th, he was sent to the 54th Kootenay, 13 Platoon, D Company. He served at Passchendaele where he was issued the Military Medal for Bravery on November 4, 1918. He arrived back in Winnipeg on May 19, 1919 at the time of the Winnipeg General Strike and was very perturbed because he could not get home as there was no train service. He died in Grandview on September 7, 1980 at the age of 87 and is buried in the Grandview Memorial Gardens. Norman was a member of Grandview Legion Branch 14 for sixty-one years.
