Military Service Recognition Book

Military Service Recognition Book 162 Leslie Francis Williams With love and admiration, the family of Leslie F. Williams would like to proudly acknowledge his military service. Les was a Sea Cadet before joining the Canadian Navy shortly after his 18th birthday in 1942. He served as a signalman on the corvette HMCS Long Branch (K487) and the frigate HMCS Ribble (K525). These ships were involved with the Battle of the Atlantic escorting convoys and participated in antisubmarine patrols. Les continued with the Canadian Navy until the end of the war in 1945. He re-enlisted in the Canadian Air Force in 1957, where he worked on the aircraft electrical systems. He served with the Air Force until 1965, during which time he and his family were stationed in France, Germany and Comox, BC. His love for the Navy brought him to join the J.R.K. Millen Navy League Cadets as a volunteer officer in 1967. He spent over 20 years with the Navy League, including dedicating a week of his holidays every summer to the Navy League camp in Gimli, Manitoba.
