LEST WE FORGET 93 GORDON, Glen Robert PEACETIME Glen was born in Taylorside, Saskatchewan on November 18, 1928. He joined the RCMP out of Melford, Saskatchewan for ten months of recruit and equitation training in Regina. He was posted toWindsor, Nova Scotia in 1948 and requested posting to Yukon in 1950 and was posted to Whitehorse. In April 1950, he purchased out of the RCMP in order to get married. Had to have five years of service at that time. In May, he moved to Vancouver, BC and was hired by the BC Provincial Police (BCPP). He was sent to Ocean Falls and Rivers Inlet to police the salmon fisheries. In August, the RCMP assumed the policing of BC from the BCPP. He was rehired by the RCMP and was posted to Queen Charlotte City, BC. In 1953, he was posted to Prince Edward Detachment and in 1956 was promoted to University Hill Detachment as Detachment Commander. In 1962, he was promoted to Sergeant and posted to Port Coquitlam, BC Detachment as Detachment Commander. In July 1963, he was selected with another member to represent Canada and the RCMP in a CP Air promotional tour of the Philippines, Japan, and Hong Kong to generate interest for Canadian tourism. In 1966, he was transferred to Burnaby Detachment, then to Richmond Detachment in anticipation of a promotion to Staff/Sergeant. He never took up the position as his Commission to Officer took precedent over those transfers. His order in Council Commissioning him to Sub-Inspector is from the rank of Sergeant. He was commissioned to SubInspector, OIC (Officer in Charge) Municipal Police Coordinator in RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. Glen was appointed Honourary Aide de Camp to the Governor General of Canada. He was appointed head of security for the President of Tanzania, Jules Nyerere in his visit to Ottawa, Toronto and NewYork. In 1970, Glen was promoted to Inspector, OC (Commanding Officer) Lethbridge Sub-Division and in 1973 he was promoted to Superintendent OIC (Officer in Charge) CIB (Criminal Investigation Branch) J Division HQ in Fredericton, NB. He was promoted to Chief Superintendent, Commanding Officer (CO) J Division Fredericton, NB in 1976. In 1979, he was promoted to Assistant Commissioner, Director of Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and Telecommunications. Glen retired in May 1982. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal and Long Service Medal with Gold Clasp (35 years). Glen passed away on February 24, 2008. GRANT, Neil WWI Neil Grant was born in Trenton, Ontario on June 30, 1895. He came with his parents, Alexander and Mary, and two siblings, Bruce and Ella, to Bounty in 1906 where they homesteaded. When he enlisted in Regina on June 13, 1918 with the 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment, he was 23 years old. At the time, he stated his occupation as farmer and his permanent address as Bounty. He did not serve overseas and received his discharge on July 26, 1918. He married Christie Ann Adair from Bounty on December 29, 1922. Neil Grant died in July 1957 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.
