EDWORTHY, John Duncan “Jack” WWII Jack was born in 1915 in Gladstone, Manitoba and was a member of the first grade twelve class to graduate at Star City. He logged for a time at Peesane, worked in insurance in Ontario, and hopped a cattle boat to England to enlist in the Royal Air Force in 1938 later transferring to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was killed in action August 25, 1945, and is buried at Rheinberg War Cemetery north of Duisberg, Germany. His Stirling disappeared during a bombing mission over the continent. He was the son of Samuel George, an insurance agent, and Ellen Belle (Duncan) Edworthy. Jack’s twin brother, Jim, along with brothers Pearce and Murray and sister Ora also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Jack was named for his uncle John Freeman Duncan (1888-1918) of Ogilvie, Manitoba, a World War I casualty. DONNELLY, Patrick WWI Private Patrick Donnelly was born on October 9, 1897, in Topeka, Kansas. His father was Roger Donnelly. He listed his address as Box 14, Bounty, Saskatchewan when he enlisted in Moose Jaw on November 21, 1917, at the age of 21. He served with the First Depot Battalion of the Saskatchewan Regiment. All of his service was in Canada. He received his discharge in Vancouver on March 17, 1919. Following the war, he and his wife Margaret had four sons, James, Francis, Tom and Daniel, and four daughters, Patricia, Mary Margaret, Pauline, and Theresa. He worked as a locomotive engineer. The family lived in Jasper, Alberta. Patrick Donnelly passed away on April 30, 1983, at the age of 85. He is buried in the Jasper Cemetery.
