LEST WE FORGET 79 CROSS, Robert Alrid “Spike” WWII Robert was born in Arcolla, Saskatchewan in 1900 and joined the armed services after the outbreak of hostilities in 1939. Spike served in England, Italy and Holland, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the 1939-1945 Star. He served six years overseas and was discharged in 1945. Spike passed away on May 28, 1969. DODMAN, Morley Raymond WWII Morley was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan in 1918. He was a Saskatchewan farm boy. He signed up in the Army early and served with 5th Field Regiment, 5th Field Battalion in Canada, England and Holland during World War II. He met his wife, Maisie, in London, England. When he returned to Canada, he and Maisie lived in Lucky Lake where he was a barber. But his nerves got too bad to shave and cut hair. They moved to Regina where he became a shipping clerk for Birks. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for ten years at the Lucky Lake Branch and ten years at the Regina Branch. Morley passed away in 1966. CUNNINGHAM, Merl WWII Merl was born in Yellow Creek and attended Hazel Lake School south of Yellow Creek. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment, serving in Canada, England and France. He was killed in action on August 14, 1944 at Clair Tizon and is buried at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France.
