LEST WE FORGET 73 COATS, Allan Cyrenius James WWII Corporal Coats was a member of the No. 420 Snowy Owl Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. Allan is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England for airmen from the north European theatre who died with no known grace. On June 1, 1943, Corporal Coats’ Wellington went missing while in transit from Portreath, England to Ras el Ma, Algeria. COFFEY, George Edward Nelson WWII George was born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 26, 1942 and served as a Transport Driver and Stretcher Bearer. He was honourably discharged in April 1946, after having been decorated with the following medals: Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, Geo VI Defence Medal, Queen Elizabeth Service Medal, and the Special Service Medal. George joined the Reserve Forces in 1946 and served until 1951. He re-enlisted in August 1951 under the #38415 where he trained as a Radar Technician. In 1952, he remustered to Communications and served in Germany and Canada. He was discharged in 1973 as an “Applied Science Technologist.” George passed away in January 2003. COFFEY, Cameron Francis Jeremiah “Frank” WWII Frank joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942. He received his pilot training at Dauphin, MB. He changed to Air Crew and had a brief tour in England. He was discharged in 1945. Frank trained as a Fire Fighter after the war. He rejoined and was stationed in Regina and Winnipeg from 1952 to 1958. He was then posted to Penhold, AB from 1958 to 1960, then Sea Island as Fire Chief from 1961 to 1964. He served as Fire Chief in Comox, BC until 1970 when he was discharged with the rank of Warrant Officer. He worked as a Commissionaire and was a Lighthouse Keeper. Frank passed away on July 19, 1997.
