LEST WE FORGET 67 CAMPBELL, Russell James WWII Rifleman Russell James Campbell was born in 1922 in Kinistino, Saskatchewan. He was killed in action on July 8, 1944, at Abbaye d’Ardennes by a sniper and is buried at Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, Reviers, France. He was the son of William Albert and Jessie I. Campbell. Russell was farming when he enlisted in Regina early in 1943. His three brothers all survived the war unscathed. CHAPMAN, James WWII James was born on February 20, 1920, in Strathclair, Manitoba. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in 1939. He trained in Weyburn and went overseas with the Advanced Guard, 1st Headquarters Co. in December 1940. He served overseas until the summer of 1944 when he was sent home on medical grounds. After arriving in Canada, he worked on recruiting for the Army for a short time. During this time, it was confirmed he had tuberculosis, which he contracted overseas. He received the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal 1939-1945 for his service. James passed away on June 19, 1948. CAUGHLIN, George Edward PEACETIME George was born on September 13, 1934, in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954, and he served for 25 years from January 1955 until December 1979 as an Aircraft Electrical Technician. He served in Canada and had two tours in Germany. He retired in Trenton, Ontario, where he passed away on July 1, 1991, where his family still resides.
