LEST WE FORGET 53 AVERILL, Henry WWII Henry was born in 1919 in Mawer, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Saskatoon Light Infantry and Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Great Britain and in Italy during World War II. The Saskatoon Light Infantry was the only infantry unit from northern Saskatchewan to see active duty overseas during World War II. BALSDON, Leslie WWI Leslie was born in Elgin County and went to Manitoba with his parents. Private Leslie Balsdon served in the Army with the Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment) 21st Battalion and was killed in action on April 2, 1916. He is buried at the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial in Belgium. BAIRD, Clifford Vandell WWII Clifford was born in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan in 1919. He enlisted with the S.L.I. and served in the Italian Campaign. After the war, he farmed for a few years, and then was employed with the Saskatchewan Liquor Board in Carrot River and Tisdale, SK. He was active in The Royal Canadian Legion and Town Council in both towns. Cliff married Emma Kenny in 1943 and they raised three children. Clifford passed away in 1991 in Tisdale.
