LEST WE FORGET 361 YONGE, Douglas Landrigan WWII Douglas was born in Central Butte, on May 11, 1919, the son of Geoff and Lola Yonge from Mawer, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on July 6, 1940, and was sent to England in 1942. The 12th Manitoba Dragoons were an armoured car regiment with a battle role of reconnaissance. In July 1944, he accompanied his regimented to France and took part in the campaign in Northwest Europe. He was wounded at St. Omer, France in September 1944 and after a stay in hospital, returned to his regiment. He returned to Canada in January 1946. He was awarded the French Croix de Guerre and Bronze Star, accompanied with the following citation: “The initiative displayed by Sgt.Yonge, his coolness under fire, complete disregard for personal safety and skillful handling of his armoured car contributed in a great measure to the closing of the enemy escape between Trun and Chambois.” Douglas passed away on August 11, 1997. YOUNG, Grant McKnight WWII Grant was born in Alameda, Saskatchewan, on March 29, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 27, 1940 and served in Canada and England before being discharged on March 1, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Upon returning to civilian life, he farmed in the Alameda area and married Phyllis Gordon and raised two children. He was very active in The Royal Canadian Legion being a Life Member of the Alameda Branch 267 and keeping it going during some low times. Grant passed away on January 18, 2007. YOUNG, Aulden “Ralph” Ralph was born in Sweetburgh, Quebec on October 5, 1963. He served in the Army and in the Air Force. His postings include: CFB Cornwallis from July 1983 to September 1983; CFB Shilo from October 1983 to July 1984; CFBWinnipeg from August 1984 to July 1989; NDMC (Ottawa, Ontario) from August 1989 to July 1992; CFB Moose Jaw from August 1992 to July 1993; CFB Shearwater from August 1993 to July 1994; SHAPE (CFSU-E), Belgium from August 1994 to July 1998; CFB London from August 1998 to July 2000; 1st Hussars (London, Ontario) from August 2000 to July 2006; Golan Heights, Israel from December 2000 to May 2001; Canadian Forces College (Toronto, Ontario) from August 2006 to August 2008 and 1st Hussars (London, Ontario) from September 2008 to December 2019.
