LEST WE FORGET 355 WOTHERSPOON, John Wilfred WWII John was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, in 1921. In June 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a leading aircraftsman with #111 Communications Flight, and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. He was discharged in 1945. John rejoined the RCAF after his discharge for a further tour of duty in 1948. He rejoined again in 1954, and was part of the Search and Rescue Branch and served there until his untimely death in a helicopter accident over Lake Winnipeg on November 30, 1958, while doing a mercy rescue mission. His body was recovered in the spring. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, and War Medal 1939-1945. WRIGHT, Leslie Albert WWII Leslie was born in the Montmartre township, Saskatchewan, in 1916. He joined the 1st Canadian Survey RCA, serving in England, Algiers, North Africa, Italy, Belgium, and Holland, and was attached to the 8th Army (Advanced Party Algiers). He passed away in 1999 and received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the Dutch Medal (posthumously). He had been a member of the Weyburn Branch 47 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 35 years. WRIGHT, Frank WWI Frank was born in Wooler, Ontario, on May 15, 1889. He moved with his parents in 1891 to Keys, Manitoba. In 1907, he came to the Armley District to homestead and returned to farm his father’s land in Manitoba until 1917. Frank then joined the Army and served overseas with the Canadian Battalion until the end of the war. He sold his homestead and in December 1921, he married Alma Boice, and they raised six children: Hugh, Bruce, Jim, Bill, Mary and Mabel.
