LEST WE FORGET 343 WELTER, Kenneth Leslie WWII Kenneth was born in the Cantaur District, near Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on October 18, 1917. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment Infantry on June 4, 1940, serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, and was discharged on October 20, 1946. Ken moved to Yorkton area in 1949, married Vivian Dorn in 1950, and farmed until 1984. In retirement, he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, in 1999 with friend Sophie Ritz. He passed away on November 9, 2005, and had been a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Springside Branch 71 for 41 years. WHITLOCK, John Fredrick WWII John was born in Raymore, Saskatchewan, on February 9, 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England and Europe. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and 1939-1945 Star. John passed away in 2010. WHITING, George Fredrick WWI Private (8th Battalion, Manitoba Regiment) George Frederick Whiting, born in 1897, of Pleasant Valley died on May 3, 1919, of influenza and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Melfort. He was the son of George Henry Whiting who came from Wawanesa, Manitoba to homestead SW20-44-17-W2 southeast of Melfort. George J. was farming when he enlisted in Brandon, Manitoba in early 1917.
