LEST WE FORGET 341 WEEDON, James Frederick WWI James was born on October 22, 1879, in London, England. As a young lad, he and his brother went to Africa to fight in the Boer War. He was taken prisoner and released in 1903 and came to Canada. He joined the Canadian Army in 1915 and served as a Farrier with the Army Service Corps in France and England. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Christopher Lake Branch for 28 years. James passed away in August 1958. WELLS, Fon B. SPECIAL AREA DUTY & PEACETIME Fon was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, on May 16, 1937 and grew up on the family farm and was an accomplished horseman and avid baseball player and very family-oriented individual. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in November 1956 in Calgary at HMCS Tecumseh and took his new entry training at HMCS Cornwallis and served on HMCS Gloucester, HMVS Churchill CFS Alert and HMCS Stadacona as a 291 operator. He was married and had two sons and one daughter. He lost his battle with cancer on September 6, 2001. He had been a member of the of The Royal Canadian Legion Centralia, Ontario Branch for fifteen years. WEISGERBER, Constantine Daniel “Con” WWII Con was born on September 6, 1919, on the family farm in Saskatchewan. He joined the army on October 31, 1941 in Regina, SK. He arrived in Europe on March 5, 1945. At the war’s end, he remained with his regiment in the Netherlands to assist rebuilding. In 1946, he received a “Souvenir Medal” from the community of Ede, Holland for aiding in erecting the works of public utility there. He was discharged on February 1, 1946. In 2003, he received a medal from the Dutch Government for his work almost sixty years earlier. Con passed away on December 27, 2004.
