LEST WE FORGET 313 TAYLOR, George RIEL REBELLION George was born to George and Adelaide (Cooper) Taylor in Mapleton, Manitoba, in 1855. He married Mary Rose (Smith) Kirkness in 1876, and enlisted under General Middleton in the Riel Rebellion. Upon completion of his service, he was rewarded with 320 acres of land in the Brancepeth area, where the first post office was soon located, and he became the first postmaster and Justice of the Peace. He became one of the first local improvement inspectors when the province was formed in 1905. George and Mary moved to Brancepeth and opened a Post Office and General Store. They were blessed with twelve children and moved to British Columbia, where Mary passed away in 1938 and George in 1946. TAYLOR, Norval WWII Norval was born in Landis, Saskatchewan, on August 27, 1919. He enlisted in 1940 and was discharged in 1943 due to medical reasons. Upon his discharge, he farmed in the Mayfair area and retired in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Norval passed away in October 1998. TAYLOR, John Alexander WWII John was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, in 1920. He joined the Gold Coast Squadron RCAF, and served in England. He was killed on December 16, 1943, and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial near London, England, for airmen with no known grave. John was the only son of Fred and Laura Taylor.
