LEST WE FORGET 311 TARVES, Howitt WWI Howitt was born to James and Mary (Dark) Tarves in Ontario, and moved out west with his family in 1903, finally settling on a farm southeast of Birch Hills in 1907. Howitt became a bank teller and enlisted in the Army in 1914, going overseas. He was wounded, and brought back a war bride in 1919. He and Freda moved to P.A., where he joined the Soldier Settlement Board, and later moved to Calgary, then Edmonton, working with the Federal Tax Department. Howitt and Freda had five children, and they retired to Victoria, where he passed away in 1974. TAWPISIM, Alexander WWI &WWII Alexander was born in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in 1897. He enlisted in the Army on May 15, 1916, serving in Canada, Britain and France, and was discharged on August 24, 1919. He re-enlisted with the Veterans Guard on August 18, 1942, and was discharged on August 4, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Victory Medal, and the British War Medal. Alexander passed away in 1961. TARVES, Wesley WWI Wesley was born to James and Mary (Dark) Tarves in Ontario, and moved out west with his family in 1903, finally settling on a farm southeast of Birch Hills in 1907. He enlisted in 1914 and went overseas. He was wounded in 1919 and returned home to resume working at the creamery. He married Caroline and they had three children. They were living in Swift Current when Wesley passed away in 1947.
