LEST WE FORGET 277 SCHUWEILER, Stephen George WWII Stephen was born on the family farm near Limerick, Saskatchewan on December 8, 1924. He joined in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 4, 1943 with the Army and was discharged in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 15, 1943 to transfer to Reserve General Section at Shilo Camp in Manitoba to join the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 16, 1943 as a driver and aircraft mechanic. He would drive the higher rank soldiers around and also work on the aircrafts. After the war, Stephen re-engaged on June 19, 1947 for five years as a RCAF (Regular) as an LAC. He married Phyllis Rosemarie Zagol in Assiniboia on October 20, 1951 and they had three children and lived in Moose Jaw near the base. Stephen was discharged on November 18, 1966 with the War Medal 1939-1945 and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Stephen passed away on June 14, 1972, at the age of 47. SCOTT, Joseph Henry WWI Joseph was born in Leeds, England, on September 25, 1892, immigrated to Canada in 1910 at age eighteen, and worked on a farm in Ontario for three years. He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces at Prince Albert on March 6, 1916, at age 23, and served in Canada, France and England with the 46th Battalion. He was discharged on June 10, 1919, at age 26, with the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He returned to homestead and married Rosa Kampa on March 5, 1930. They raised three children. Joseph passed away at the age of 66 on December 3, 1958. SCHUWEILER, Victor Kamil WWII Victor was born on the family farm near Limerick, Saskatchewan on December 27, 1920. He joined in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 7, 1942 and took his basic training in Brandon and St. Thomas, Manitoba. He was going to serve in Europe but due to illness was in a Winnipeg hospital for 100 days. His trade was Airframe mechanic and was assessed for civilian life as a sheet metal mechanic. Victor was discharged on August 15, 1944, with the Canadian Service and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. On return to Assiniboia, he drove for an oil company and then worked at the Big River Elevator. Victor married Muriel Callan of Big River on March 5, 1947, and they had five children together. Victor also did some farming, worked at the John Deere as a parts man. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Assiniboia Branch 17 for 47 years. Victor passed away on February 13, 2005, at the age of 84.
