LEST WE FORGET 273 SCHELL, Charlie WWI During World War I, Charlie joined the 226th Battalion in 1916 and served in France with the 16th Battalion for nineteen months. After his discharge, he homesteaded in the Whitebeach area. He joined the Department of Natural Resources as Forestry Assistant in 1927 and in 1929 served in the Pelly District as a Forest Ranger, later known as a Field Officer. SCHILLER, Ferdinand WWII Ferdinand was born in Tyvan, Saskatchewan, on March 30, 1922. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment on November 14, 1942, serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was wounded with shrapnel in the back and was discharged on January 7, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Ferdinand passed away on May 11, 1995. SCHICK, Oscar George WWII Oscar was born in Lemberg, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on February 4, 1943, and served in Canada until his discharge in March 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Carlyle Branch 248 for 42 years. Oscar passed away on August 12, 1988.
