LEST WE FORGET 257 RODGER, William Stewart WWII Stewart was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, on August 26, 1912. At the age of 31, he was considered too old for service overseas by the Canadian authorities. He was one of the over 600 Canadian officers loaned to the British Army. He landed on the beach in France on D-Day and continued through the European campaign and into the occupation of Berlin. He was proud and pleased to serve with the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment and with Brigade Headquarters, both of the 7th Armoured Division (Desert Rats). He enlisted in May 1942, and was discharged on January 11, 1946. Stewart passed away on May 21, 1986. ROULSTON, George WWII George was born in the Ingleside District of Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on April 1, 1919. He joined the 2nd Canadian Engineers Eq. workshop RCEME on May 1, 1941 in a motor mechanics and good drivers mechanical course and was assigned to the important position of regimental water duties responsible for purifying all the water for the regiment. He received his motor vehicle mechanics certificate completing a course on diesel mechanics. As a Lance Corporal, he saw active duty in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. He was discharged on October 22, 1945. He married Alice in 1948 and they raised a family of two. George worked in a garage for many years and then operated his own garage in Marchwell and retired to Langenburg in 1980. He enjoyed playing cards and sports, especially golf. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star, War Medal 1939-1945, and Defence Medal. George passed away on March 25, 1999. RODGERSON, Emerson Lorne KOREA & SPECIAL DUTY & PEACETIME Emerson was born in O’Leary, PEI, on May 11, 1930. He joined the Canadian Army on August 13, 1950, and was discharged on October 20, 1952. He joined the RCAF on August 4, 1953, and was discharged on January 31, 1968. He then joined the regular component on February 1, 1968, to December 24, 1972, having served in Korea, Canada and the USA. He received the Korean Star and the United Nations medal. After his release, he worked for the DPW. Emerson passed away on June 11, 1997.
