LEST WE FORGET 251 RHODENISER, Willis Edward RCMP Willis was born in Farmington, Nova Scotia on March 28, 1911. He enlisted on July 2, 1935, and served in the RCMP Depot K Alberta and F Saskatchewan. Cst. Willis Rhodeniser passed away on August 26, 1939, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, at the age of 28. RICHARDS, David A. SPECIAL DUTY AREA David was born on August 15, 1953. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1971 and served at Royal Roads Military College in Victoria, BC from 1971 to 1973; Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario from 1973 to 1975; 1 Service Battalion, 1 Combat Group in Calgary, AB from 1975 to 1977; 450 Helicopter Squadron in Ottawa, ON from 1977 to 1979. David retired in 1979 at the rank of Captain. RICHARDS, Charles Ross WWII Early in 1942, Ross attended The Dominion Provincial Youth Training School for four weeks in Moose Jaw, after which he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a wireless mechanic. He spent ten weeks at Wireless School in Queen Mary’s Road in Montreal, during which time he was involved in the Precision Drill Team which put on quite a number of parades and shows in Montreal. It was then off to Shelbourne, NS and then on to St. John’s, NL by which time he was a Flight Sergeant. His job was to help look after the communications in the St. John’s area which was basically supporting the communications effort for the Battle of the Atlantic. After VE Day in May 1945, there was not much work to be done in Newfoundland, so he volunteered to go over to England where there was still a need for people to help solve the problems of repatriating all of the servicemen. He took a cut in rank to Sergeant and was there for nine months during which time he was stationed in Bournemouth, Reading, and Torquay. He was discharged in May 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. Ross passed away on February 28, 2008.
