LEST WE FORGET 247 REID, Earl E. WWII Earl was born in Renown, Saskatchewan, on March 14, 1921. He enlisted in 1941 in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, serving in England, France, Germany and Holland. On his return home, he met his future wife, Eunice Ellaschuk, and married in August 1948. They had two daughters and one son. Earl worked for the CPR and then the CNR for 27 years and was a member of the Watrous, Perdue, Turtleford and Meadow Lake Legions for over 37 years. He passed away in 2002. Earl received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, France and Germany Star, and Dutch Commemorative Medal was presented to Eunice. REID (ORTON), Evelyn WWII Evelyn was born in Winton, Saskatchewan, on August 20, 1918; the seventh in a family of ten children born to Wilfred Richard and Annie May Orton. She took a correspondence course in stenography and then joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and was stationed in Ottawa. After the war, she went to Rehab School, and in 1947, she married Frank Evans of New Market, ON, and they had two children: Jean and Dick. After fourteen years of marriage, Frank passed away and the family moved back to Crystal Springs. Evelyn married Arthur Reid in 1967, and they farmed at Crystal Springs until Evelyn passed away on June 22, 1998. REID, Edwin Clare WWII Edwin was born in Manor, Saskatchewan on August 2, 1910. He served in the Army with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in England and in Dieppe during World War II. He was wounded and taken as a prisoner of war until May 6, 1945. In 1967, Edwin was sent to Toronto with the Carlyle Legion to attend a Prisoner of War Reunion where he got to see many old friends. He and his wife were both life members of The Royal Canadian Legion. He attended many reunions and they got to meet Colonel Merritt. Edwin passed away on December 13, 1996.
