LEST WE FORGET 245 RANDALL, Robert WWII Robert was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1941 and served in Canada, England and Northwest Europe. After the war, he owned and operated a shoe repair store in Hanley. He passed away in 1994. REEVE, Robert WWI Robert Reeve was born on August 6, 1888, in a village called Wing in Rutlandshire, England. His parents wereWilliam Sherard Reeve and Mary Reeve. Before he emigrated to Canada, Robert served four years with the Leicester Imperial Yeomanry. He identified Bounty as his home and farming as his occupation when he enlisted in Saskatoon on November 10, 1914, with the 32nd Battalion. He was 26 years old at the time. He sailed from Halifax aboard the SS Vanderland on February 23, 1915. His papers indicate that the Theatre of War where he served was France where he began his duties on March 8, 1915. He was killed in action on June 2, 1916, at Sanctuary Wood where the Canadian Corp fought in the defence of Ypres from April to August of that year. He is buried at Larch Wood Cemetery, near Ieper, Belgium, where there are 542 Canadian casualties. The Canadian Memorial at the Sanctuary Wood site features a 15-tonne block of white Quebec granite. Many of the gravestones in the nearby cemetery bear the date of June 1916. The inscription on Private Robert Reeve’s gravestone reads: “Do thy duty that is best/ Leave unto God the rest.” REAY, Charles William RCMP Cst. Charles Reay joined the RCMP on May 15, 1947. He initially engaged as a Special Constable and became a regular member a year later. He passed away on October 6, 1955 in Churchill River, Island Falls, Saskatchewan, at the age of 27.
