LEST WE FORGET 235 PORTEN, Archibald M. WWII Archie was born on April 21, 1915 in Bogend, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 22, 1941 and departed for overseas on December 26, 1942. He served as Co-pilot and Bomb Aimer with 600 hours of flying time; becoming a pilot officer and a flight officer instructing bombing. He returned to Canada on April 25, 1945 and worked at various jobs, including elevator agent and farming until retirement. He married Vera Hancheroff in 1946. Archie passed away in 1999. PORTEN, Jack M.F. WWII Jack was born on December 31, 1918, in Bogend, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in July 1941, at the age of 23. He departed for overseas on September 10, 1942 where he served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in the shoe repair depot. Jack died from gas fumes in England after the end of the war. He is buried in a Military Cemetery, Brookwood Station, Working, Surrey, Row B, Grave 3. PORTEN, Gerald Norman WWII Gerald was born on September 26, 1917, in Bogend, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces on August 5, 1942, at the age of 25. He departed for overseas on April 1, 1943. While in England he became a Signalman, Driver Mechanic, water proofing instructor and a dispatch rider. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in February 1944. He traveled through Continental Europe serving in Holland after the war ended. He returned to Canada on February 2, 1946. He received the War Medal 1939-1945, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal 1939-1945 and France and Germany Star. Gerald passed away in 1995.
