LEST WE FORGET 219 OSHENAK, Steve WWI Steve was born on January 6, 1898, in Sheho, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCA during World War I and served in Canada and Russia. He received his Saskatchewan Command Medals in recognition of his service. Upon returning home, Steve went to school in Regina, Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. He married Mary Haluke on July 20, 1936 and raised a family of ten children. PARKS, William Herbert “Herb” WWII Herb was born in First Nation Muskoday, Saskatchewan, in 1912; one of four children to William and Dorothy (Isbister) Parks. In 1922, the family moved to the Davis area, and he went to Island Lake School until he was thirteen and had to go to work. From 1940 to 1945, he was in the Canadian Army and spent five years overseas. Upon his return, he married Jessie Bear and had two daughters: Diane Laurette and Wilma Jayne. They moved to British Columbia, where Herb worked for BC Ferries, shipyards and heavy construction. He and Jessie both belonged to The Royal Canadian Legion, and he was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the First Nations Veterans Association. Herb passed away on December 3, 2007. Jessie had predeceased him. OVERGAARD, Rasmus Thorvald WWII Rasmus was born in Denmark on January 24, 1905. He joined the Navy with ABC Shore Patrol, serving in Canada. He passed away in 1995.
