LEST WE FORGET 211 NESSETH, Kermit WWII Kermit was born in Pekin, North Dakota, USA, on October 20, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 as a machinist, serving in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in 1946 and lived in West Vancouver and operated a bulldozer. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Kermit passed away on May 1, 1985. NEWTON, Thomas “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Central Butte, on December 3, 1921. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 4, 1941. He took training in Brandon, Medicine Hat, Edmonton and High River and received his wings in Ottawa. He left for Southampton, England in August 1942. After completing training in England and Scotland, Tom was posted to a fighter squadron. Before any operations, he was informed that he was to go to India and head for the Far East. The convoy had to go around the Cape because fighting was heavy in the Suez, arriving in Bombay, India. Tom was posted to #22 Ferry Command where he ferried fighter aircraft to India, Ceylon and Burma. He returned to England in August 1945 and in Halifax in September. Tom passed away on July 12, 2010. NESSETH, Murnet WWII Murnet was born in Speers, Saskatchewan, on May 17, 1925. He joined the Army in 1934 with the motorized infantry, serving in France, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in 1946, and worked in Smith’s Radiator Shop north of Battleford, SK. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Murnet passed away on February 29, 2004.
