LEST WE FORGET 209 NEILL, Quinn Charles WWII Quinn was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1924, to Charles and Ruth Neill. He grew up in Watrous, graduated high school in 1939, and was hired on at the CNR as a machinist apprentice that year. He enlisted in Regina on June 16, 1943, and was put in the Ordnance Corps because of his mechanical background. He trained in Barrie, Ontario and served in a recovery unit. He was sent to France in mid-to-late June 1944, was injured, and honourably discharged on July 17, 1944. He returned to the CNR in Watrous and completed his apprenticeship. He married Pearl Anderson in 1948 and they had two sons, both career railroaders. They moved to Melville, Saskatchewan in 1953. Pearl passed away in 1975. He retired from CN as a supervisor in 1975 after over 37 years. Quinn passed away on October 18, 2008, at the age of 84. NELSON, Milford “Mel” WWII Milford was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan, in 1922; one of six children born to Joseph and Emma Nelson, who moved to the Hagen district from Broderick in 1933. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the war. He married Ruby Robertson in British Columbia in 1948, and lived there for several years. Mel worked for the CPR, and they moved to Calgary where he worked for Canada Manpower until his passing in 1972. NELSON, Conrad WWII Conrad was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan, in 1917, and was 16 years old when he arrived in Hagen with his parents, Joe and Emma Nelson. He worked in bush camps in the winters and for farmers in the summers. He married Inez Swenson in 1941, and then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and went to Saskatoon for training. His next postings were at St. Thomas and Yorkton, before being sent to England in 1944, and then to Germany until 1946, when he returned home to farm. They had a son, Craig, and a daughter, Dianne. He worked for many years for J. R. Leach and Sons and Greenland Farm Equipment in Prince Albert. They then moved to P.A. in 1974, and he kept working until he passed away in 1979.
