LEST WE FORGET 205 MUNROE, Douglas Thomas WWII Douglas was born on August 17, 1918, in Mawer, Saskatchewan, the son of Thomas and Annie Munroe. He joined the forces in 1940 and went overseas serving with the Edmonton Rifles Regiment in 1943 He was killed in action on August 28, 1944 in Tona, Italy. He is buried in the British Empire Cemetery in Montecchio, Italy. MURRAY, Charles “Chic” WWII Charles was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1923. He joined the FIFE & FORFAR YEOMANARY, serving in Holland, Germany and France, and was a tank driver or an operator of the flame thrower with the 7th Armoured Division of the Desert Rats. He drove one of the tanks up onto the Gold Beach at Normandy on D-Day. Charles passed away on November 11, 2001. MUNROE, Ernest Haig “Huff” WWII Huff was born in Mawer, Saskatchewan, on May 17, 1917. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the Essex Scottish 2nd Division from 1943 until 1944. He was wounded twice and was in hospital in England for seven months before being sent to Shaughnessy Military Hospital in Vancouver where he spent the next one-and-a-half years. He returned to farm in Mawer, but the injuries to his legs affected him his entire life. Huff passed away on February 22, 1998.
