LEST WE FORGET 203 MOTHERWELL, Alexander “Sandy” WWI Sandy was born in Scotland around 1900, and came to Canada with his widowed mother and brother, David. He built a house on the south quarter and married Jean Taylor. They had one son, David. Jean passed away, and David went to live with his grandmother and his uncle David. Sandy enlisted at the outbreak of World War I, and was killed in action. His son, David, enlisted in World War II and was also killed in action. MUNROE, Aird “Monty” WWII Monty was born in Mawer, Saskatchewan in 1913, the son of Thomas and Annie Munroe. He joined the forces in 1941 and went overseas serving with the REME second division from 1942 to 1945. The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) provided engineering support and was responsible for maintaining the Army’s equipment. MOTHERWELL, David WWII David was born to Sandy Motherwell and Jean Taylor, in the Fisher District of Birch Hills around 1922, and attended school at Fisher and Birch Hills. He enlisted in the Air Force with #96 Squadron as a navigator wireless operator serving in Canada and England. He had enlisted in the Army but transferred to the RAF overseas. He passed away on May 15, 1944, at age 31, and is buried at Stoke Road Cemetery, Slough, Birmingham, England.
