LEST WE FORGET 201 MOORE, Wesley James “Wes” WWII Wes was born on November 7, 1915. He married Elsie Hodgson on January 7, 1938. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He drove a supply truck in France and Germany. He narrowly escaped death when he was standing near a truck, talking with others, then walked away, when a shell landed near the truck, killing the men near the truck. Wes rose in rank to Lance Corporal, and was discharged in July 1945. Elsie and their two oldest sons, Ron and Dale, had moved to Manor, so Wes made his home there doing various jobs. He worked in the Post Office with Aubrey Beatty whom he succeeded as Post Master. They also raised two more children: Perry born in 1950, and Michelle in 1956. Wes passed away on July 19,1994. MORRIS, Brian Charles RCMP Brian was born in Calgary, Alberta on December 24, 1948. He served in the RCMP “F” Division from 1978 to 2004 in Fort Qu’Appelle, Rose Valley, twice in Melville, Eastend and North Battleford. Brian has been very involved in each community he has been posted to. He helped start two Kinsmen clubs, coached minor hockey and baseball. He served as a DARE officer (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) in North Battleford and Melville, and to this day is very proud of the honour, and very pleased when past students, who are now adults with children of their own, recognize him. Brian has served on many local committees from local museum boards to sports clubs, etc. After his retirement in 2004, he became more involved with R.G. Combe Legion in Melville and filled various roles within the organization. He is presently the long-standing Poppy Chairman and works hard to promote Remembrance Day to the local schools. Each year, the number of students participating via contests or attending local Remembrance Day events increases. Brian’s wife jokes that the Melville Legion Hall gets priority over the family home when upgrades or repairs are needed. However, Brian’s family is very proud of his devotion to the Legion and community. Brian is a chip off the old block and his dad, Chuck, would be proud indeed. MORASH, Howard Herbert WWII Howard was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in 1922. He joined the Canadian Engineers and served in Canada. He passed away in 2001.
