LEST WE FORGET 175 MADILL, William Henry Pastor WWI William was born in Ontario in 1863. He enlisted with the 104th Battalion in 1915, serving in Canada. He was discharged in 1916. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Earl Grey Branch. MANDIN, Emile WWII Emile was born on July 25, 1915, in Carlton, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCAF and after receiving his training, graduated as an Observer and was stationed overseas where he was attached to 150 RAF Squadron. Flight Sergeant Emile Mandin paid the Ultimate Sacrifice at the age of 26. Emile was killed in action on June 9, 1942 while among the crew of a Wellington twinengine bomber that was reported missing in action. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial in Surrey, England. The Saskatchewan GeoMemorial, Mandin Lake is located northeast of Lloyd Lake. MAGNUSSON, John Freeman WWII John was born in Leslie, Saskatchewan, on March 18, 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon on November 28, 1941, and was shipped overseas to England on May 27, 1943. He was stationed at Croft and flew 38 missions over enemy territory. He received the 1939-1945 Star, European Star, Defence Medal, Air Bomber Badge, Operation Wing, Service Meal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross before returning to Canada on January 23, 1945. In April 1945, he married Dorothy Marjorie Harris, and they had four children. Together, they farmed for eight years before he joined the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, first as an elevator agent and later working in the Head Office until his retirement. John passed away on March 28, 1998.
