LEST WE FORGET 169 LYONS, Miles WWI Miles was born in St. Clements, Manitoba, around 1870. He was a volunteer in the rebellion of 1885. He emigrated to Saskatchewan and homesteaded in the Brancepeth district. Miles married Victoria Taylor and they had a family of ten children. In 1917, he enlisted in the Army at The Pas, Manitoba, and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Canada, Britain and France. He was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal, and was discharged on March 10, 1919 in Winnipeg. Miles passed away on September 4, 1919. MacDIARMID, Robert John “Ian” WWII Robert was born in Handsworth, Saskatchewan, in 1921. He joined the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), serving in Canada, Italy and Holland. He passed away in 1993. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch 59 for 32 years. LYPCHUK, Edward F. PEACETIME Edward was born on June 17, 1937, in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in November 1954 and in 1955 he became a Fighter Control Operator. In January 1966, he remustered and became a Refrigeration Technician for the remainder of his career. He was posted to numerous radar stations and bases across Canada and in the North throughout his 34-year military career. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 22 years. Ed retired from the military in 1988 as a Chief Warrant Officer at Air Command Headquarters in Winnipeg, MB. Ed passed away on November 22, 2005.
