LEST WE FORGET 139 KINGSLEY, William Charles WWII William was born in Coolidge, Birch Hills, on December 21, 1922. William attended Coolidge and Birch Hills schools and enlisted in the Air Force in 1942. He served with #138 Squadron Royal Air Force as a pilot and was killed in action on March 4, 1944, at the age of 21, and is buried at Ste. Croix Communal Cemetery, Bernay, Eure France. Kingsley’s Halifax was missing from a secret night mission dropping supplies and agents into occupied France. He was the son of William Henry and Maria (Adams) Kingsley. KNUTSON, Palmer Clifford WWII Private Palmer Clifford (Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, motor mechanic) of Naicam died on August 17, 1945 and is buried at Holten Canadian War Cemetery, Overijssel, Netherlands. He drowned when the vehicle he was riding in drove into a canal in Amsterdam during darkness and heavy rain. He was the son of Edna Knutson and was farming when he enlisted in Calgary late in 1941. KIRBY, Charles Edward WWII Charlie was born on July 28, 1914, in Hart, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in April 1943 and went overseas after completing his basic training. Charlie served in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in England, Italy, Holland, France and Germany. The Troop Carrier transporting him to Italy was torpedoed in the Mediterranean. After spending a few hours in the ocean, he was picked up by another carrier. Charlie was honourably discharged in March 1946. Returning to Scout Lake where he was reunited with his wife Ellen and son Ken. They purchased a farm three miles east of Scout Lake. Two more children were born, Judy in 1948 and David in 1950. Charlie remained on the farm until 1996. He passed away in October 1999 in Rockglen, SK. Charlie is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia beside his wife Ellen.
