He was killed on May 1, 1945 and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial near Nijmegen, Netherlands for soldiers from the liberation of the lowlands who died with no known grave. HOLMES, Harold John WWII Harold was born in Elbow, Saskatchewan in 1916. He enlisted in the Army in 1940, serving in Canada as a stationary engineer. He was discharged in 1945 and retired in Saskatoon. He passed away on October 22, 2004. He was a member of the Speers Branch 116 for 59 years. HOFFMAN, Louis Edward WWII Louis was born in Invergordon District of Saskatchewan in 1918. He joined the Iroquois Squadron RCAF as a wireless air gunner. He was killed in action on February 21, 1945, and is buried at Reichswald War Cemetery, near Kleve, Germany. His Lancaster went missing during a night raid on Dortmund. He was educated at Invergordon School and at Birch Hills and was farming at Vulcan, AB, with his wife, Lavina, and children, Henry and Patricia when he enlisted in 1942.
