LEST WE FORGET 117 HERD, George Nelson Colven WWI George Nelson Colven Herd was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 26, 1896. His parents, Charles and Effie, immigrated to Canada in 1903, settling in the Milden area. George was 21 years old when he enlisted in Regina on June 11, 1918. He was farming near Bounty at the time. He was not able to serve overseas and received his discharge papers on January 13, 1919. The 1935 Voters List indicates that he was living in the Milden area. He married Eleanor Mary Stringer and the couple had a son, George Edward Herd. It is not known when the family moved to British Columbia. Mary died in Surrey, BC on July 11, 1951; and George died on December 13, 1960, at the age of 64. They are buried in Valley View Memorial Gardens in Surrey, BC. HINGTGEN, Clifford Theodore Frank WWII Clifford was born in Ogema, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1925. He served in the Navy on the Micmac and was on it when it went down. He spent some time in the sea before being rescued. Clifford passed away on June 10, 1995. HERDMAN, Fredrick W. WWI Frederick was born in 1894 in Toronto, Ontario. He joined the C.E.F. 68th Battalion serving in England and France during World War I. He was killed at Vimy near the end of the war in 1918.
