The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 481 WOOD, Elmer Dewitt WWII Elmer was born in Cadillac, Saskatchewan on June 8, 1919. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Regina in September 1939 and left Canada with the 1st Division. After serving in England, Dunkirk, France and Germany, he returned home on the Queen Mary in August 1945. Elmer and his three brothers all served in World War II and they all returned home after the war. In 1943, Elmer had met and married his English war bride, Stella Hopkin, and they raised three children. Elmer passed away on May 3, 2003. WORRELL, Gerald S. WWII Gerald enlisted in the Army during World War II and served as a Captain with the Cape Breton Highlanders in The Netherlands and Italy. He was awarded the Military Cross for Bravery in the capture of the town of San Laberto during the Italian Campaign. WOTHERSPOON, Hugh Robert WWII Hugh was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on May 28, 1926. He joined the Navy at the age of 18 and served off the east and west coasts of Canada until shortly after the war ended. Hugh passed away on June 1, 1991.
