She enlisted in the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada during World War II. After finishing her training, she wanted to cook and that’s what she did. She was sent to Guelph, Ontario to cook for the troops there. She enjoyed being in the Air Force and quotes in her interview with “The Memory Project” that “I wouldn’t say they were bad memories, no. It always seemed like everything – we had fun.” VERHELST, Hubert WWII Hubert was born on May 8, 1920 in Meyronne, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served in England, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was awarded two Medals of honour. Hubert was a member of Radville Legion Branch 42 for more than sixty years prior to his death on May 22, 2007. VETTERLI, John WWII John was born in 1925 in Sinnett, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served in the 2nd Division, 8th Recce (Reconnaissance Regiment), in England, France, Belgium and Holland. John has been a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2.
