The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 453 STUBER, John KOREA John was 20 years old when he enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry for the Korean War in August 1950. He was in Korea by early 1951 and stayed until late 1952 when he was discharged for medical reasons associated with PTSD. His patrol was picked to do a night raid with the goal of capture and intelligence on the enemy. This raid did not go as planned and they were attacked. He carried an injured soldier down the hill but the soldier died while still being carried by John. A week later, John requested to be discharged and he was shipped out. He met Thelma in Japan and moved with her to her home in Australia where they were married. After Thelma passed away, he married Peggy and they reside in Medicine Hat. John has been a member of Cactus Unit 64, Korea War Veterans Association. STULBERG, Alfred “Alf” WWII Alf was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan on August 20, 1921. He joined the Army in November 1942 and spent time in Prince Albert, Shilo and Woodstock instructing basic training. In June 1944, he went overseas to England and Europe where he served in the Algonquin Regiment Armoured Corps, 4th Division. On September 7, 1944, he was one of 24 Canadians captured by the German Army in Holland. They marched for three days then rode a train to the POW camp Stalag 2D near Hamburg, Germany. Alf was a POW for seven and a half months before being released on May 8, 1945. He was discharged a few months later on August 23. Alf has been a member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for sixty-eight years. STULBERG, John WWII John was born on June 2, 1917 in Kincaid, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in 1943 in the Royal Canadian Army but due to a hip fracture as a child, he was classified as B-2 category. He trained in Grande Prairie, Alberta and later transferred to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers where he spent the remaining years of the war at different places in Ontario. After his discharge, he returned to Davidson where he spent the rest of his years. John was a Life Member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for about fifty-eight years before he passed away on September 29, 2004.
