The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 451 STOBBS, Henry Allan WWII Henry was born in 1918 in Brancepeth, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and trained in Saskatoon before being posted to Comox and Esquimalt, British Columbia. He did security patrol on the west coast. Henry was a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2 prior to his death in 1995. STOKER, Dale William SPECIAL DUTY AREA Dale was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on October 17, 1939 and followed his brother Gary into the Canadian Navy in 1956. He took his basic training at HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Gloucester in Ottawa and served with several stations in the North, including Canadian Forces stations Alert, Coverdale, Gander and Leitrim. He spent two years on exchange duty with the U.S. Navy in Florida then served on board HMCS Skeena out of Victoria, British Columbia. After serving 23 years in the Navy and reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class, he joined the RCMP and served with them from 1981 to 1996, attaining the rank of Constable. In 1960, Dale married Loretta Viney from Tisdale and together, they raised three children. They now live in Medicine Hat, Alberta and Dale belongs to Legion Branch 6 in Redcliff. He received the Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, the Centennial Medal (Meritorious Service) and the Special Service Medal. STOKER, Gary J. SPECIAL DUTY AREA Gary was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on June 14, 1936. He worked for the Department of Highways for three years then joined the Navy in February 1955 at HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon. After basic training at HMCS Cornwallis, he trained at HMCS Gloucester in Ottawa in Special Communications. He then spent two years at Naval Radio Station, Aklavik inside the Arctic Circle before going to HMCS Cayuga for a year then on HMCS St. Laurent on the east coast. In December 1959, he awaited his discharge at HMCS Naden after which he worked for the Rural Municipality of Bjorkdale in 1960, the Magnus Construction and B.C. Lumber Mills in 1962 then the Saskatchewan Department of Highways. He married Betty Humphreys in October 1964 and they had two children. In 1966, Gary joined Richardson Pioneer and became a grain buyer in Crooked River. He retired in 1996 after 28 years and Gary and Betty now live in Tisdale. Gary has been a Legion member of Crooked River Branch 292 and Tisdale Branch 50 for fifty-seven years.
