William WWII William joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a Leading Wireman in Norway, Holland, Cherbourg and the Channel Islands west of Land’s End. He served at the Portsmouth Dockyard from April 1943 to January 1945 and was posted to the British minesweeper HMS Ilfracombe from May 1945 to February 1946. SHATFORD, Howard Edmund WWII Howard was born to Albert and Louisa Shatford of Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served as a Private with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He died on December 20, 1941 and is buried in the Sai Wan Cemetery outside Victoria, the capital of Hong Kong.
