The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 423 SAWYER, Mervyn E. WWII Mervyn was born in 1919 north of Carnduff, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in January 1941 with the 8th Recce Regiment, 14th Canadian Hussars and served overseas as a Trooper. Mervyn was discharged in September 1945. He was a Life Member of Carnduff Legion Branch 216 prior to his death on September 24, 1988. SCHELL, Raymond Wilfred WWII Raymond was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan on February 26, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and began active service on February 15, 1943. He was assigned to convoy escort duty as an Able Seaman in the Atlantic protecting the shipping lanes from the U-boat threat. Raymond served mainly on HMCS Dawson and HMCS Victoriaville, ending his service on September 10, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Mary Huculak and settled in the Lampman area where they raised seven children. Raymond farmed and worked in the oil industry before retiring to Estevan. He was a member of Lampman Legion Branch 330 for thirty-six years before he passed away on August 26, 2003 in Lampman. SCHRIOCK, Willard WWII Willard enlisted in the Army and served in England during World War II. After the war, he served as a supply officer.
