The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 411 RODGERS, William WWII William was born in Raphoe, Northern Ireland in 1912 and came to Canada with his parents, six brothers and one sister in 1924. Another sister was born in Canada. They farmed at Handsworth, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served in England and Europe. After the war, William moved to Corning, Saskatchewan where he ran the road grader for the municipality. He died in 1974. ROMANIUK, Nicholas “Nick” WWII Nick was born in 1922 in Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and was stationed in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and Calgary and Suffield, Alberta. He volunteered at the Suffield Experimental Station where he and others were exposed to “real chemical warfare agents such as mustard agents, other chemicals and toxic solvents”, often without knowledge or appropriate medical treatment. They were told they would most likely be sterile. These veterans were recognized at Suffield on August 26, 2005 when they were finally able to break the “forced code of silence”. Nick was proud of his Maple Creek Legion 16-year membership. With his wife Elizabeth, Nick raised four children while living in Vancouver, British Columbia from 1951 to 1969 before returning to Maple Creek where he resided until his death in 1994. ROY, André WWII André was born in Dollard, Saskatchewan in 1914. He joined the Army and served in England during World War II. He was the youngest brother to Louis Roy who served in World War I and David Roy who served in World War II. André died in a plane crash in northern Saskatchewan in 1980.
