The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 401 RAMSEY, James WWI James joined the Army during World War I and served in Europe with the Canadian Infantry. Private Ramsey was killed in action in 1915 and is buried at the Vimy Memorial in France. He was 21 years of age. RANDALL, John Arthur WWII John was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan on August 18, 1922. He enlisted in the Army on November 14, 1942 and joined the 16/22 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in March 1943 then went to England a few months later in June. This regiment was disbanded and he was posted to the Canadian Armoured Reinforcement Unit, arriving in North Africa in November 1943. He was sent to Italy in December, was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse then saw action in Holland and Belgium. John was discharged in March 1946 and he farmed from then until 1963 when he became postmaster at Kenaston. John in now retired and lives in Saskatoon. He has been a Legion member for a total of fifty-seven years at Kenaston Legion Branch 240 and Nutana Legion Branch 362. RANDS, Jack WWII Jack was born in Lucky Lake in 1920. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment of the Canadian Army in April 1940 and arrived in Scotland on Christmas Day 1940. With his regiment, he took part in the Dieppe Raid and was wounded on August 19, 1942. Following his recovery, he was transferred to the Royal Canadian Mechanical Engineers. On May 8, 1945, Jack was stationed at Camp Borden, England where he taught heavy-duty motor mechanics. He attended the VE Day celebrations at Reading, south of London. He arrived home to Davidson on June 25, 1945 and was discharged a few months later on August 8. In Canada, he was stationed at Weyburn, Shilo and Toronto. Jack was a member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for forty years before he passed away in 1996.
