The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 395 PETERSON, Gordon O. WWII Gordon was born in Abbey, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in 1942 and served with the Canadian Grenadier Guards in France and Holland where he was killed in action on September 20, 1944. Gordon was buried in the field but was re-buried in Adegem, Belgium in 1945. PETIT, Claude KOREA Claude was born in Duck Lake. He was just 15 years old when he joined the Army in December 1951. As a boxer, he won a lot of championships while in the war and was the first Canadian soldier to win in the British Army in England. He also won the Golden Gloves four times in Edmonton and was the Canadian champion of the Canadian Corps from 1965 to 1968. He came from a military family, his dad having served for seven years in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Claude was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. POCHA, Roderick James WWI Roderick was born in 1880 in High Bluff, Manitoba. He joined the 9th Reserve Battalion and served at Shorncliffe Camp in England. Private Pocha, a Métis soldier from Saskatchewan, was killed early in the Battle of Mont Sorrel which changed hands several times before a counterattack on June 13, which returned the territory to the Canadians. The Germans did not attack again. Roderick was killed in action in 1916.
