The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 383 OLSON, R. H. WWII R. H. Olson was born on May 31, 1923 in Kenaston, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 26, 1942 and served in Canada as Leading Aircraftman until leaving the service on January 6, 1946. He married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. ORDON, Leonard John “Len” WWII Len was born in 1918 in Admiral, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army Service Corps in Regina on January 9, 1940 and at that time, Army pay was $1.30 per day. Len sailed on the Empress of Britain and landed in Greenock, Scotland on February 8, 1940. As part of the Royal Canadian Engineers, South Saskatchewan Service, he built/repaired roads and eventually helped fix the machines that repaired the roads. Len was promoted to Sergeant just before D-Day. He was in Nijmegen, Holland when the war ended and he remembers that the sky was thick with airplanes and searchlights and starving adults and children lined the streets. The population was very happy with the Canadians. After repairing the war-damaged equipment, Sergeant Ordon returned to Canada for discharge on October 30, 1945. He joined Wood Mountain Legion Branch in 1945 and served as President of Orkney Legion Branch 232 for seven years. He has over 70 years of Legion membership and 42 years of public service with the Saskatchewan government and in the Army. OSBORNE, Walter H. WWII Walter was born in Saskatoon. He enlisted on February 28, 1925 and served with the Canadian Tank Corps during World War II. Walter left the service as a Trooper on April 9, 1946. He married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
